The Gannon Estate

Location: Makawao, Upcountry Maui

As you drive through the fertile hills of Upcountry Maui, green patchwork quilts of pineapple fields trimmed with red earth give way to large expanses of the Pacific. Passing historic churches and large plantation houses with horses grazing on lawns, you realize that you have found an unspoiled paradise, one you would like to someday call home.  Here, halfway between Maui’s free-spirited townships along the road to Hana and the manicured resorts of Wailea, Kapalua and Kaanapali, you will find the private home of one of today’s leading culinary personalities!

Chef Beverly Gannon and her husband, Joe Gannon have made their home on 7 magnificent acres on historic Baldwin Avenue.  The home itself is an authentic example of plantation style esthetic and a masterpiece of work by famed architect, C.W. Dickey.

Over the last two centuries, the property has been home to many significant figures in history, including famed bio-scientist, William Tuttle.  Mr. Tuttle was an innovator who changed the pineapple industry in Hawaii by, literally, changing the shape of the pineapple. Pineapples used to be round and a lot of fruit was lost in the canning process.  Mr. Tuttle found a way to create the “square shouldered” pineapple we know today by changing the DNA of the fruit!

More recently, the home has become a showcase of state of the art kitchen design and equipment.  Chef Gannon has created a chef’s ‘dream kitchen’ and seamlessly wove 21st century flair with a historical point of perspective.  Combined with a vast collection of art and artifacts from local artists, the Gannon Estate is the perfect setting for your memorable event.
